About Current Worldwide Water Crisis

Our planet has had numerous sources of natural water since millions of years but at present we are facing water crisis.

Our requirement for safe potable water for daily needs has continued to go up substantially with time. Though nature recycles fresh water for us, the growth of population has been so large as to cause scarcity of water. You would know that seventy percent of earth comprises of water but the content of fresh water is just  2.5 percent. It is amazing that mankind has access to just about one percent of freshwater that is naturally available as most of it is enclosed within glaciers or snow fields. As a result, present worldwide population of more than 6.8 billion gets just 0.007 percent of naturally available fresh water.

Reasons for Water Crisis

The reasons for the ongoing scarcity of water are many that go to include social, political, environmental and economical. While certain parts of our world have been lucky enough to get fresh and clean water in abundance, many other parts of this world are unfortunately getting polluted water or experiencing destructive draughts. There are many reasons for this uneven distribution of naturally available water. These include available resources, geographical and or climatic issues plus engineering concerns. There are many populations that have to make laborious efforts or spend a lot of money for procuring water.

Indispensable for Life

Human body comprises of sixty percent water. Water is essentially needed for our survival. Moreover, it is essentially required for our daily activities like cooking and washing, for production of food and for maintaining environmental balance. As per reports coming from the United Nations, the worldwide requirement of water has doubled, compared to what it was hundred years ago.  The report estimates that by the year 2025, the population of people living in areas facing water scarcity would reach 1.8 billion and over sixty percent of population would need to survive in water stressed areas due climatic changes, usage and growth. Apparently, global water crisis is continuing to worsen, despite our efforts to reduce it. It seems that we are still not aware of all the consequences this might have. Some find it hard to believe, but once the water becomes a very valuable resource, even more valuable than the oil, wars will ravage our planet.

It is imperative to find sources of clean and fresh water. It is equally important to understand that all of us have a role to play in finding ways for conservation, management and distribution of water. Everybody needs to spend some time to understand worldwide scarcity of water and make individual contribution to for management and conservation of water. Perhaps, you could take the initiative of getting associated with the local community or get connected with global water sponsorship plus conservation efforts.
